What attracted you to Community Food Advocates?

I spoke several times with CFA team members before I officially joined in February 2022. Every conversation left me wanting to be a part of such a close community. CFA’s coalition model fosters such strong relationships, and the focus on high-impact public policy ensures everyone is included.

What do you remember about school lunch?

In middle school, I was caught trying to steal extra food at lunch. I was hungry and didn’t have money to get enough food. I was suspended from school for 3 days. I was a good student and did not usually get into trouble. I wish someone had taken the time to wonder why I had done such a thing. Children shouldn’t have to worry about how they’re going to eat for the day.

What inspires you to strive for racial and identity justice?

My favorite book is Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde. It is a collection of her essays and speeches on different parts of her identity. Her work inspires me every time I read it.

When you were a kid, what did you want to grow up to be?

I’ve always loved animals, and wanted to be a veterinarian for a really long time.

Would you rather be able to travel anywhere for free for the next 5 years, or receive a million dollars?

Traveling has always been really important to me. I truly believe I have learned so much from other cultures, which makes one a more compassionate person overall. I would travel all over the world for 5 years straight.
