What attracted you to Community Food Advocates?

I first came to CFA several years ago to work with our youth food advocates. I’ve always admired the strength of CFA’s team to advance effective and strategic policy, while remaining committed to building coalitions that reflect the communities they work in. It’s the perfect intersection of what I’m most passionate about, so it feels serendipitous to be working with CFA once again.

What inspires you to strive for racial and identity justice?

After moving to New York 5 years ago and living in a heavily gentrified neighborhood in Brooklyn, I quickly realized the deep inequities that exist in the City, especially for BIPOC communities. I joined a few food cooperatives and met many community organizers who centered their mission on racial and identity justice. Through those relationships, I’ve been inspired to think critically about these issues in the work I do.

When you were a kid, what did you want to grow up to be?

I always wanted to be a veterinarian because I’ve always loved animals. My house was somewhat of a zoo and I’ve always connected to animals (especially dogs).

What one thing about you surprises most people?

I was a competitive equestrian rider for quite a while when I was younger.

What are your favorite hobbies? Where can we find you when you are not working?

I really enjoy baking, especially around the holidays. I also spend quite a lot of time with my dog at the park or on long walks and I try to do as much yoga as I can.
