Monique Lindsay

Monique Lindsay, a parent advocate for 20 years, is recognized citywide for her work to ensure all NYC public schools strongly address children’s rights. She advises the Chancellor as a member of the Chancellor's Parent Advisory Council. She has served on her local Parent Teacher Association (PTA), on the District and Borough Presidents’ Council where she guided more than 160 PTAs, and on the Citywide Council on High Schools where she fought school closures.

Ms. Lindsay is an active member of the Coalition for Public Education (CPE) and the Association of Black Educators New York (ABENY), where she advocates for Black students and advises their parents. She is active in her church and is corresponding secretary of the EverReady Ministry, which connects justice-involved persons and families to housing and resources.

Ms. Lindsay is a mental/emotional wellness advocate. As Co-Chair and facilitator for the Coordinated Children’s Service Initiative of the Brooklyn Borough Based Council, she helps children, teens, young adults and their families to address mental health challenges.

Ms. Lindsay joined the campaign for Universal Free School Lunch in 2014 and co-founded the Lunch 4 Learning Parent Caucus. She supported campaign strategy development and connected to elected officials. She met with the Chancellor of NYC Public Schools to inform him of the positive impact of universal on school lunch stigma. Ms. Lindsay is actively engaged in the Lunch 4 Learning campaign to redesign all public school cafeterias. She works to address broader food insecurity issues as a member of the the Good Food Purchasing Program Coalition’s Nutrition Committee.

Ms. Lindsay is a native New Yorker, a lifetime Brooklyn resident and the proud mother of a son who currently attends college. She loves to learn new knowledge and try different experiences, and is always willing to work with others to bring about change.
