Marissa Hersh

Marissa Hersh is a passionate food policy advocate with a deep commitment to equitable wealth distribution. Ms. Hersh joined the Community Food Advocates Board of Directors in fall 2020. Given her interests in food policy, food education, and fundraising, the CFA Board was a perfect fit.

Ms. Hersh is currently a Donor Advisor at One for Democracy, a pledge that encourages people with wealth to give 1 percent of their assets to groups working on election protection and voter participation initiatives. She had a career in food education prior to her role at One for Democracy. Ms. Hersh worked for Edible Schoolyard NYC, where she engaged elementary and middle school students in daily gardening, nutrition, and cooking classes at a public 3K-8 school in East Harlem. She was also a FoodCorps Service Member in Guilford County, North Carolina, where she taught food education and created a culture of wellness in four elementary school communities.

Ms. Hersh received her MA in Food Studies from New York University and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a focus on Public Health, Food and Nutrition. She is Mom to a two year old and a newborn.
